The official journal of the “Italian Spectroscopists Society” soon catalyzed international interest. The Society began to aggregate foreign members as Jules Janssen, Georges Rayet, Norman Lockyer and George Ellery Hale. The Memorie were, by far, the very first journal in the world dedicated to research in astrophysics, preceeding even the famous The Astrophysical Journal, today the most prestigious journal in the field.
